Google Tag Manager

  • Data layer
  • Consent
  • Server-side

Tag Manager is where measurement plans become real, and where they most often break. This track teaches the container model properly: tags, triggers, variables and the data layer, followed by debugging habits that catch problems before publishing.

The later modules cover consent mode, server-side tagging and container governance — naming, folders, versions and workspaces — because most tracking failures come from process rather than syntax.

What you learn

The six things this
track is built around

The container model

How tags, triggers and variables fit together, and what actually happens on the page at load.

The data layer

Designing a data layer with developers, pushing events, and handling timing and race conditions.

Practical implementations

GA4 configuration and event tags, ad platform conversions, form and scroll tracking, e-commerce events.

Debugging

Preview mode, DebugView, browser tooling and a repeatable process for finding where an event disappeared.

Consent and privacy

Consent mode, blocking triggers, regional behaviour and working with a consent platform.

Server-side tagging

What server-side containers change, when they are worth the cost, and how requests flow through them.

Structure

The modules, in order

Modules run in sequence because each one assumes the previous one. Experienced specialists usually start partway through, which we agree before the plan is written.
